In an indirect way, AB can help determine which alliance holds a town.

To own a town/outpost, you are competing against other alliances as to who can donate the most faction to your alliance. In your GH, and in Cavalon and House zu Heltzer, there is a Factions Transfer NPC who will donate 5k faction at a time for you toward your alliance total. The alliances who own towns do a LOT of faction farming and require a certain amount of faction donation from every single member.

When you enter a town, it tells you which alliance owns the town--but it only states the "lead" guild of the alliance, which makes it seem as though only one guild owns it; in fact, it is the contribution of all the guilds in the alliance which make it possible.

AB are the battles between Kurzicks and Luxons which every 3 hours determine the boundary lines of each faction's territory. You can see it on the big map [M]. It is a special kind of PvP, and you can earn faction for your account while fighting, which can be donated toward owning a town. However, if a town your Kurzick alliance owns falls into Luxon hands due to AB, a Luxon alliance will now own it based on their own faction donations.

Does this clear it up?
